Meridiam becomes majority shareholder in Great Sea Interconnector project
On August 5, 2026, the French investment group Meridiam is set to become the majority shareholder of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) company, which is responsible for developing the electricity connection between Greece and Cyprus. The signing ceremony is scheduled for 16:30 at the Maximos Mansion in Athens, in the presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This ownership restructuring is expected to strengthen the financial foundation of the project, which has a total budget exceeding €2 billion.
In addition to the ownership shift, a tripartite agreement will be signed between the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE), GSI, and the French company Nexans. This deal initiates critical seabed surveys required for the technical implementation of the project. These efforts aim to provide precise data for the construction of the link, a strategic energy project recognized as a project of common interest by the European Union to enhance energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
