Fire destroys historic Corner Pub building in central Nicosia

A significant fire broke out on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at a landmark building on Dimostheni Severi Street in Nicosia, formerly known as the Corner Pub. The structure, located opposite the Presidential Palace, was completely engulfed in flames, leading to the collapse of its roof. Five staffed fire engines, including a hydraulic platform vehicle, were deployed by the Nicosia Fire Department to battle the blaze.

Firefighting efforts focused on containing the inferno and preventing its spread to adjacent properties and businesses. While the building suffered total damage, authorities reported no injuries at the time. The site, which previously functioned as a popular Manchester United supporters' club, remains under investigation. Fire officials stated that the specific causes of the blaze will be determined through a formal investigation once the site is fully secured and the fire is completely extinguished.
