Major fire destroys former Corner Pub in Nicosia

On August 5, 2026, a major fire broke out at a building formerly housing the historical Corner Pub on Demosthenis Severis Street in Nicosia, near the Presidential Palace. The fire caused extensive damage to the structure, resulting in the total collapse of the roof. The Fire Service responded to the emergency with five staffed vehicles, including a telescopic ladder truck, prioritizing the protection of surrounding properties.

Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis confirmed that authorities worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent its spread to neighboring buildings. By late afternoon, the fire was brought under control. Investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by the Nicosia District Fire Station and the duty officer in cooperation with the police. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
