Wildfire breaks out near Marathounta in Paphos district
On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 5, 2026, a wildfire broke out in the area of the Marathounta community in the Paphos district. The fire is currently burning through dry grass and wild vegetation, prompting an immediate mobilization of local emergency services.
According to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis, ground operations involve four staffed firefighting vehicles. These units are being supported by personnel from the Forestry Department and organized volunteer groups. Aerial assistance is also being provided, with four firefighting aircraft deployed to the scene; two were already patrolling the area when the fire began, while two additional units were scrambled from Paphos Airport to reinforce containment efforts.
