Limassol completes redevelopment of historic Heroes Square

The Municipality of Limassol has officially accepted the newly redeveloped Heroes Square, marking the conclusion of a project that began in August 2024. The site was handed over by the contractor, AN. Christou Constructions, on August 6, 2026, following over two years of intensive construction work in the city center.

The project, which carried a budget of €3.9 million plus VAT, was funded through the European Union's cohesion policy program 'THALEIA 2021-2027'. Designed by architects Socrates Stratis and Christos Passadakis, the renovation focused on improving accessibility for pedestrians, expanding green spaces, installing modern lighting, and implementing an underground rainwater management system. The design, selected via an architectural competition, aims to transform the square into a modern hub for culture and daily social interaction.

Mayor Yiannis Armeftis highlighted the completion as a step toward creating higher quality public spaces. Future plans involve extending these improvements toward the Agia Triada area and integrating them with upcoming redevelopment works on Anexartisias Street. Separately, city officials met with government ministers to coordinate further infrastructure developments, including plans for the Aktaia Odos and the regeneration of the coastal zone between the old and new ports.
