Renovated Heroes Square in Limassol to reopen on August 6

The renovated Heroes Square in Limassol is set to be handed over to the public on Thursday, August 6, 2026, marking the completion of a two-year redevelopment project. The construction contract, valued at 3.9 million euros plus VAT, was signed in August 2024. The project was implemented under the 'THALIA 2021-2027' cohesion policy program with co-funding from the European Union.

The architectural design, titled 'Square of Everyday Heroes,' was developed by Sokratis Stratis of AA&U for Architecture, Art and Urbanism and Christos Pasadakis of KIS Architecture following an open competition. The renovations focused on pedestrian accessibility, increased green space, upgraded lighting, and the installation of a modern rainwater management system beneath the square. The construction was carried out by the company AN. Christou Constructions.

The project aims to transform the historic square into a modern, functional public space for social and cultural activity. While the square is being returned to the public, reports indicate that the handover to the Limassol Municipality is initially on a temporary basis to facilitate final transitions.
