Cyprus government announces new leadership for public universities

The Cyprus Council of Ministers officially appointed new leadership teams for the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) during sessions held on July 22 and 30, 2026. The appointments follow consultations with the Senates of both institutions in accordance with national legislation.

Andreas Yasemidis, currently the CEO of PwC Cyprus, has been named the new President of the University of Cyprus Council, succeeding Tasos Anastasiou, who did not seek reappointment. New members of the board include Menelaos Kyprianou, Nikolaos Oikonomidis, and Mikaella Raspa. For the Cyprus University of Technology, Andreas Karakatsanis has been officially confirmed as President following his transitional tenure, replacing Kostas Galatariotis. Esthi Panagidou was appointed as Vice-President, alongside board members Maria Sykoperitou, Alexandros Taliotis, Loukas Christodoulidis, Giorgos Diogenous, and Marina Nikolaou.

The new leadership terms are set to span until January 21, 2029. Yasemidis expressed his commitment to advancing higher education, emphasizing his intention to collaborate with the Rector and university community to shape the country's future. The administrative overhaul aims to provide institutional stability for the next two and a half years.
