37-year-old man arrested at Larnaca airport for alleged car import fraud

A 37-year-old man was arrested at Larnaca International Airport early on August 6, 2026, upon his arrival from the United Kingdom. The suspect had previously been apprehended in the UK following a European arrest warrant issued by Cypriot authorities for his alleged involvement in a large-scale fraud scheme.

Investigators are examining 20 cases of theft, obtaining property under false pretenses, and money laundering. Authorities allege that between 2022 and 2023, in the Limassol and Nicosia districts, the man posed as a car importer to deceive citizens. He reportedly collected significant sums of money and vehicles from victims, promising to import cars that were never delivered. The total value of the defrauded assets is estimated at 827,400 euros.

Following his arrival in Cyprus, the suspect was placed in custody. He is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court to face a remand hearing as the TAE Limassol police department continues its investigation into the extent of the fraud and the number of victims involved.
