DISY party to decide 2028 presidential candidate through member vote

The Democratic Rally (DISY) party in Cyprus has announced a new democratic process to select its candidate for the 2028 presidential elections. Deputy Press Spokesperson Elena Kousiou confirmed that the decision will no longer rest with the Political Bureau, but will be determined by the party's base during a nationwide congress.

To participate in the vote, members must have been registered for at least 90 days prior to the congress. While the official nomination process is still developing, media reports have identified three potential candidates for the party's ticket: current party president Annita Demetriou, former leader Averof Neofytou, and former minister Giorgos Pamboridis. The party has reportedly already conducted its own internal polling to assess the political landscape.

This shift represents a significant change in internal party procedure, prioritizing grassroots participation over executive committee selection. The move is intended to increase transparency and legitimacy in selecting the party's choice for the presidency of the Republic.
