Rodri nears Barcelona transfer after rejecting Real Madrid

Spanish midfielder Rodri, the MVP of the 2026 World Cup, has reportedly reached a personal agreement to join Barcelona, effectively ending his pursuit by Real Madrid. The 30-year-old player, currently under contract with Manchester City until June 2027, expressed his desire to return to La Liga following the departure of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Enzo Maresca. Following the agreement with the player, Barcelona initiated formal negotiations with Manchester City. The Spanish champions submitted an initial bid of 45 million euros plus 10–15 million in potential bonuses. However, Manchester City rejected this offer, holding out for a transfer fee of 65 million euros. Barcelona officials maintain they will not exceed 50 million euros in base payment, noting that the player will be a free agent in one year.
