Klelia Chatjistefanou-Papaellina assumes duties as Deputy Minister of Culture

On August 6, 2026, Klelia Chatjistefanou-Papaellina officially assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Culture in Cyprus, succeeding outgoing minister Vasiliki Kassianidou. The transition ceremony took place following the swearing-in of the new Cabinet members, marking the start of a new administrative phase for the ministry.

Vasiliki (Lina) Kassianidou, who held the position since July 14, 2023, concluded her three-year tenure by highlighting key institutional milestones, including the establishment of clearer strategic structures and a strengthened international footprint for Cypriot culture. However, she acknowledged unresolved issues, most notably the pending "Artist Status" legislation and the urgent need for increased budget allocations to support the sector effectively. She expressed gratitude to her staff across the departments of Contemporary Culture, Antiquities, State Archives, and the Cyprus Handicraft Service.

Incoming Deputy Minister Klelia Chatjistefanou-Papaellina emphasized a policy of continuity, framing culture as a pillar of national identity. She identified the support of creators, the protection of cultural heritage, and the promotion of inclusivity as her primary objectives.
