Escalating drone and missile strikes between Russia and Ukraine

On August 6 and 7, 2026, Russia and Ukraine exchanged a massive series of aerial attacks. Russia reported intercepting over 605 Ukrainian drones across more than twenty regions, with some debris causing minor damage to a Wildberries warehouse in Tver. Simultaneously, Ukraine struck Russian oil refineries in Bashkortostan and Yaroslavl. In the Black Sea, both sides engaged in maritime hostilities, with Russia targeting commercial vessels, including one grain carrier, resulting in casualties among crews and strikes on port infrastructure in Pivdennyi.

Ground conflict intensified as well, with Russian strikes in Balakliya and Sumy killing at least six people and injuring dozens. Later, additional strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region claimed two more lives near Nikopol. By August 8, Russian missile attacks on the Kyiv area, specifically Brovary, killed at least three people, including a child. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to target energy facilities and logistical hubs deep within Russian territory. These developments mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, with both nations intensifying their focus on critical infrastructure and export routes, leading to mounting civilian casualties and damage to industrial assets.
