Ilias Myrianthous appointed as Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare

President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus appointed Ilias Myrianthous as the new Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare during a government reshuffle announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Born in Paphos in 1967, Myrianthous is a former EDEK member of parliament who served in the legislature from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2016. His parliamentary background includes service on committees dealing with agriculture, energy, and transportation, which aligns with his new administrative duties.

On August 6, 2026, Myrianthous officially assumed his role, receiving the portfolio from the outgoing Commissioner, Antonia Theodosiou.
