Student assaulted and robbed in Nicosia

On Saturday, August 1, a 26-year-old student of South Asian descent was assaulted and robbed at approximately 4:20 a.m. in Nicosia. The incident occurred in a dark parking lot located on Konstantinou Palaiologou Street, near the construction site adjacent to the Oxi roundabout. According to the victim, a group of three to four men, who appeared to be speaking Arabic, approached him under the pretext of offering a cigarette before throwing him to the ground and stealing his mobile phone and house keys. The victim reported that despite his cries for help, the area was deserted at that hour.

The student described the transition from the illuminated restaurant street to the pitch-black construction zone as a significant public safety hazard. Following the incident, Nicosia Municipality was contacted regarding the lack of visibility in the area. The municipality stated that it currently has no plans to install additional lighting and advised that formal complaints should be submitted via email for further consideration.
