Cyprus retail trade volume shows annual growth in June 2026
In June 2026, the volume of retail trade in Cyprus recorded a 5% increase on an annual basis, outperforming the general averages observed across the European Union and the Eurozone. However, when compared to the previous month of May 2026, the retail trade volume in Cyprus contracted by 1%. This monthly decline mirrors a broader trend, as the Eurozone saw a 0.3% decrease and the EU experienced a 0.1% decline during the same period.
The official data, published by Eurostat, highlights a volatile first half of 2026 for the Cypriot retail sector. Monthly fluctuations began with a 1.2% decrease in January, followed by gains of 0.7% in February and 0.6% in March, a 0.9% drop in April, and a robust 3.7% growth in May. On an annual basis, the sector maintained positive momentum throughout the year, with growth rates of 8.9% in January, 5% in February, 6.1% in March, 2.7% in April, and 8.4% in May, leading up to the 5% figure recorded in June.
While Cyprus outperformed the EU's annual growth rate of 1.2% and the Eurozone's 0.7%, the monthly contraction indicates a cooling effect. These figures are based on the calendar-adjusted retail sales index provided by Eurostat, serving as a key indicator of consumer demand and economic health in the region.
