Reports emerge of a secretive meeting between President Pezeshkian and Mojtaba Khamenei

Reports by the opposition outlet Iran International suggest that the meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, occurred under highly unusual and secretive circumstances in Tehran. While President Pezeshkian had previously claimed in May that he held a cordial, two-and-a-half-hour meeting with the leader, new accounts describe a brief encounter lasting only a few minutes inside a dark vehicle with tinted windows, where the two men were unable to see each other.

The alleged meeting took place at an undisclosed location where Pezeshkian was reportedly driven and seated next to a man presented as Mojtaba Khamenei. According to these sources, the conditions were so dark that visual contact was impossible, and guards allegedly forbade a handshake. Following the encounter, Pezeshkian reportedly questioned his associates about whether the voice he had heard truly belonged to the Supreme Leader, casting doubt on the authenticity of the interaction. These conflicting reports arrive amidst ongoing speculation regarding the health of the Supreme Leader, who has not made any public appearances since the reported death of his predecessor, Ali Khamenei, following earlier attacks.
