Civil weddings remain a key economic driver for Paphos district

Civil weddings have established themselves as a vital source of revenue for the Paphos district, significantly bolstering the local economy and the tourism sector. Municipalities including Paphos, Akamas, Geroskipou, and Polis Chrysochous benefit from thousands of international couples choosing the region for their ceremonies. Notably, the Paphos Municipality recently announced a major milestone, reaching 36,000 civil weddings performed to date, confirming the area's status as a premier international destination.

The economic impact extends beyond municipal coffers, benefiting local hotels, event planners, photographers, and floral services. Stella Dimitriou, the civil wedding official for the Akamas Municipality, noted that interest in the region remains strong despite regional geopolitical instability. Projections indicate that approximately 750 civil weddings will take place in 2026, with an expected increase to 800 in 2027. Although the ongoing conflict has affected certain markets, cancellations have been minimal, totaling only about ten weddings. The British market remains a primary source of demand for the region's wedding services.
