Wedding tourism remains a key economic driver in Paphos

Civil weddings have become a cornerstone of the tourism sector and municipal revenue for the Paphos district in Cyprus. Local authorities, particularly in the municipalities of Paphos, Akamas, and Yeroskipou, report significant income from international couples choosing the region for their ceremonies. The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous also records revenue, albeit on a smaller scale. These events generate widespread economic benefits, supporting hotels, event venues, floral services, and photography businesses.

Recent data highlights the sector's success, with the Paphos Municipality announcing a major milestone of 36,000 civil weddings performed over the years. Meanwhile, the Akamas Municipality expects to host approximately 750 weddings in 2026, with projections suggesting an increase to 800 by 2027. Stella Demetriou, the civil wedding officer for Akamas, noted that despite geopolitical tensions affecting some markets, cancellation rates have remained minimal at around ten weddings. The region continues to strengthen its international reputation as a premier destination for civil marriage ceremonies, successfully integrating this service into its long-term tourism strategy.
