Cyprus remains under heatwave with yellow warning in effect

Cyprus continues to experience extreme heat with temperatures reaching up to 40°C in inland areas. On August 8, 2026, the Department of Meteorology extended a yellow warning for high temperatures, which remained in effect from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Meteorological Officer Matthaios Papadakis warned that these high-temperature conditions are expected to persist until at least Wednesday, August 12. While inland temperatures hover around 40°C, coastal areas face additional challenges due to high humidity levels, making the heat feel more intense and uncomfortable for residents. Authorities advise the public to take necessary precautions against heat-related health issues.
