Former Ukrainian ambassador to the US Olga Stefanishina faces corruption charges

On August 6, 2026, Ukrainian authorities announced that former ambassador to the U.S. Olga Stefanishina is under investigation for corruption. The 40-year-old former official, who previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, is suspected of illicit enrichment totaling 13.9 million hryvnias, equivalent to approximately 270,000 euros. According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), the investigation concerns undisclosed luxury real estate properties that do not align with her reported official income.

This legal action follows the dismissal of Stefanishina by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday, August 3, 2026, following her tenure as ambassador which began in July 2025. Her removal was widely anticipated as part of a broader government reshuffle initiated by the President last month. Following the announcement of the probe, Stefanishina appeared before a special anti-corruption court on Wednesday and stated via social media that she is approaching the situation calmly.

The case remains ongoing as the anti-corruption authorities continue their inquiry into her financial disclosures. As of now, President Zelenskyy has not yet announced a successor for the ambassadorial position in Washington.
