Cyprus authorities implement action plan to address airport congestion

On August 4, 2026, the Minister of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus, Costas Fitiris, convened a special meeting at Larnaca International Airport to address significant operational issues. The gathering, which included representatives from the police, security services, border control, and the airport operator Hermes Airports, was prompted by a surge in passenger complaints regarding massive queues and extreme congestion during the peak tourist season.

Following the consultation, the ministry developed a comprehensive action plan to streamline processes and mitigate overcrowding within the airport facilities. As an immediate consequence of the decisions reached during the meeting, the minister ordered the restoration of vehicular access to the Larnaca airport arrival zone, which is scheduled to take effect on August 7, 2026. This move is intended to alleviate traffic bottlenecks outside the terminal and improve the overall flow of travelers.
