Cyprus government appoints 85 new board members to semi-governmental organizations
The Council of Ministers of Cyprus officially appointed 85 new members to the boards of 11 semi-governmental organizations on August 6, 2026. This administrative restructuring includes key national entities such as the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA), the Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO), and the Cyprus Land Development Corporation. President Nikos Christodoulides announced the appointments following recommendations from an advisory board and a thorough vetting process, which involved an open application period held throughout April.
The newly appointed boards take effect immediately to oversee public policy implementation in essential sectors including energy, infrastructure, sports, and economic development. For the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Loizos Loizou has been named president, while Giannis Ioannou will lead the Cyprus Sports Organization. These changes aim to ensure effective governance across the strategic pillars of the state, following a selection process that allowed for public applications to the Advisory Council earlier this year.
