Cyprus ministry maintains ban on political and sports insignia in primary schools

With the new school year approaching in roughly one month, the Cypriot Ministry of Education has reaffirmed existing regulations regarding student attire and personal property in primary schools. Parents are advised to avoid purchasing school supplies, bags, or clothing featuring emblems or insignias related to political parties or sports clubs.

The directive, outlined in the school manual, aims to foster a harmonious environment among students, minimize potential friction, and prevent the stigmatization of children based on group affiliations. Giannos Ioannou, President of the Association of Parents of Primary Education, stated that this long-standing practice has been effectively implemented in previous years without causing conflict.

Educational organizations and parent groups support the policy, noting that compliance has been high. The regulation is considered a standard measure to maintain a neutral educational setting, and authorities confirmed that the practice remains in effect as preparations for the upcoming academic season continue.
