Famagusta District and KIOS Centre sign water network management agreement

The Famagusta District Local Government Organisation (EOA) and the KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence, a research unit of the University of Cyprus, signed a formal cooperation agreement on August 6, 2026. The partnership aims to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the district’s water supply network.

Under the nine-month project, which has a budget of 76,000 euros, experts will perform hydraulic modeling and develop advanced monitoring and reporting systems. Key operational activities include the analysis of technical data, the assessment of optimal locations for installing pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), and providing technical support for decision-making regarding infrastructure design and pressure management. This initiative serves as a strategic move to modernize water resource management within the free areas of the Famagusta district.

This project reflects a broader effort by the local government to integrate smart technologies into critical infrastructure. Following the conclusion of this research and data analysis phase, the EOA expects to utilize the developed tools to better manage available water resources and optimize the daily operation of the water network.
