Diaspora committee calls for end to Turkish occupation of Cyprus

The International Coordinating Committee 'Justice for Cyprus' sent a formal letter on August 6, 2026, to President Nikos Christodoulides, demanding the immediate implementation of UN resolutions regarding the island. The committee calls for the withdrawal of Turkish troops, the return of Varosha, and the reunification of Cyprus into a functional republic within the European Union.

The committee praised the Cypriot government's recent diplomatic successes, specifically highlighting the '3+1' agreement supported by the United States and the 'Amalthea' project, which positions Cyprus as a vital bridge to the Middle East. They stated that after 52 years of fruitless negotiations following the July 20, 1974 invasion, it is time to shift focus toward justice and the enforcement of international law to resolve the island's long-standing status.
