Cyprus police conduct nationwide crime prevention operations

On the night of August 6 to 7, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of organized, nationwide preventive operations aimed at maintaining public order and deterring criminal activity in urban centers. Authorities focused on increasing visibility through intensified patrols and rigorous inspections across the country.

During these operations, police checked 682 vehicles and 952 individuals. Officers performed 41 inspections of business premises, resulting in one report. In terms of traffic enforcement, there were 368 citations issued for various violations, including 161 instances of speeding. Additionally, police conducted 200 breathalyzer tests and impounded ten vehicles. Two individuals were arrested on charges ranging from illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus to public intoxication and causing a disturbance.

The initiative follows a general strategy to enhance public safety and curb delinquency through proactive policing. While initial reporting covers the immediate outcomes of these checks, the authorities continue to investigate the specific traffic cases.
