Cyprus police conduct nationwide enforcement operations

Cyprus police carried out a series of intensive nationwide operations between August 6 and August 8, 2026, aimed at preventing crime and maintaining public order in key urban areas. During these overnight patrols, officers conducted checks on 838 drivers and 348 passengers, resulting in 12 arrests for various offenses, including drug possession, drink-driving, illegal residency, theft, and malicious damage. Furthermore, authorities carried out 56 premises checks, issuing six reports for non-compliance.

Traffic enforcement was a significant focus, with police issuing 402 fines and opening 18 additional cases for various violations. Notably, 162 of these fines were for speeding, and 25 vehicles were impounded. Police also conducted 292 breathalyser tests, resulting in 19 reports, and four drivers tested positive for drugs. These heightened measures are part of an ongoing police strategy to increase public safety, particularly in anticipation of increased traffic flow during the upcoming August 15 holiday period, where authorities have declared a state of full operational readiness.
