Cyprus ambulance service report on operations from 2025 to 2026
Between January 2025 and June 2026, the Cyprus Ambulance Service handled 128,178 calls, averaging approximately 235 incidents per day. Despite the high volume of calls, the service maintained a stable monthly median response time, which ranged between 9.67 and 10.82 minutes, with an overall median of 10.33 minutes. Emergency calls accounted for 62.8% of the total, while the remaining 37.1% were routine, non-urgent patient transfers.
The service's epidemiological and operational report highlights that nearly four out of ten incidents involve transporting patients between homes, hospitals, and nursing homes. These non-urgent transports are cited as a primary factor limiting the fleet's flexibility. Common reasons for calls included general illness, falls, respiratory issues, traffic accidents, and fainting. Dispatcher assessments of urgency showed high accuracy, with a 98% match rate when compared to final crew diagnoses, although this rate experienced a temporary decline in May and June 2026.
Currently operating under the State Health Services Organization (OKYpY), the service is scheduled to transition to the Ministry of Health as the National Ambulance Authority in January 2027. This shift is intended to better manage operations and address the challenges posed by the high frequency of non-emergency transfers.
