Cypriot athletes compete at U23 European Shooting Championship in Poland

Cypriot athletes are currently participating in the U23 European Shooting Championship held in Wroclaw, Poland. The event features several disciplines, with the national team members competing in both Trap and Skeet events. Andreas Pontikis achieved a significant milestone by winning the gold medal in the Skeet Solo event. After securing his spot in the knock-out stages, he defeated Great Britain's Worrall 7-3 in the quarterfinals and Bulgaria's Iliya Iliev 7-3 in the semifinals. In the final, Pontikis dominated Slovakia's Martin Horvath with a decisive 6-0 victory to claim the gold.

Other notable performances include Markos Kontopoulos, who reached the Skeet final with the top qualifying score of 123/125. Despite his early lead, a tactical error during the fourth station resulted in two consecutive misses, ultimately placing him in fourth place. Additionally, the trap shooting squad, composed of Giorgos Grigoriou, Andreas Germanos, and Kyriakos Papazachariou, arrived in Poland accompanied by national coach Antonis Fettas to represent the country. While Pontikis secured top honors, other participants such as Stylianos Perikleous completed their campaign during the qualification rounds without advancing further.
