Paphos police report two separate violent and criminal incidents

Paphos authorities have reported two distinct criminal cases occurring between August 6 and August 7, 2026. In the first instance, a 28-year-old foreign national was arrested during a police operation in Kissonerga in the early hours of August 6. Officers caught the suspect trespassing in residential yards, and upon searching him and his vehicle, discovered burglary tools, cash, and narcotics. He has since been linked to two previous cases of burglary and theft in the Paphos district, specifically from November 18, 2025, and May 21, 2026. The Paphos District Court has remanded the suspect in custody for five days.

Separately, on August 7, a 51-year-old man was arrested following an altercation at a monastery in the Paphos district. According to police and reports, the incident occurred when a delegation of priests requested that the man surrender his cell keys and depart. The suspect allegedly attacked a 53-year-old individual with a sharp object, causing neck and hand injuries, and also wounded a 27-year-old priest on the hand. The 53-year-old remains hospitalized for treatment, while the younger victim has been discharged. The suspect faces charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, and weapon-related offenses.
