Greek Mafia suspect arrested in Germany

Authorities in Germany have arrested a 31-year-old man wanted in connection with high-profile organized crime activities in Greece. The suspect is identified as a member of the criminal group known as the "Entik" cigarette smuggling ring. He is facing a European arrest warrant issued for his alleged participation in three murders of individuals linked to the Greek Mafia, as well as one attempted murder.

Among the specific charges, the suspect is accused of involvement in the assassination of Vangelis Zambounis, known as "Zambon," who was killed on January 14, 2024. During that attack at his gas station in Neos Kosmos, at least three perpetrators in a luxury Lexus fired 97 bullets from three Kalashnikov rifles. Beyond the homicides, the suspect is also implicated in a criminal organization responsible for arson attacks, bombings, the kidnapping of a prison guard, and illegal possession of military-grade firearms.

This arrest is considered a major breakthrough for Greek law enforcement, which has been tracking down those responsible for a wave of underworld violence. The suspect remains in custody in Germany, pending further legal procedures regarding his extradition to Greece to face the pending charges.
