Fatal head-on collision in Serres claims lives of mother and son
On the morning of August 7, 2026, a tragic head-on collision occurred on the Drama-Amphipolis national road near Palaiokomi in Serres, Greece. The accident, which took place at approximately 07:30, involved a passenger car and a truck, resulting in the immediate deaths of a 43-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son. The victims, who were traveling to work, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the 56-year-old truck driver was injured and transported to the General Hospital of Drama for treatment.
The 56-year-old truck driver reported that he was traveling within his lane at a speed of 75-80 km/h when the passenger vehicle lost control and veered into his path. Expert analyst Panagiotis Stamiris suggested that while the passenger car was traveling at a high speed, potential driver distraction may have also been a critical factor in the loss of vehicle control. Note that one source initially identified the victim as 24 years old, while subsequent reports consistently identified him as 21.
Authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the collision. The local community remains in shock following the loss of the two family members, with the father of the deceased expressing his profound devastation to local media outlets.
