Donald Trump's Peace Council awards first reconstruction contract for Gaza

The Peace Council established by U.S. President Donald Trump in January to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza has announced its first construction contract. The project involves building a military base with a capacity for 150 personnel, designated to house Moroccan troops. The contract has been awarded to Arkel International, a Louisiana-based firm known for its previous infrastructure work for the U.S. government in Iraq, although officials noted that the agreement is not yet fully finalized.

Chaired by President Trump and including key members such as Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, the Peace Council is currently working alongside a group of Palestinian technocrats known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. An official from the council stated that further construction contracts are in the final stages of preparation. While the initial focus remains on security infrastructure, the administration plans to continue its reconstruction efforts in the territory as part of the broader post-war development framework.
