Nicosia Criminal Court postpones trial of German estate agent accused of property usurpation

The Nicosia Criminal Court has officially postponed the trial of a German real estate agent accused of usurping Greek Cypriot properties in the Turkish-occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus. The decision, handed down on Friday, followed a request from the prosecution, which cited the unavailability of key witnesses due to vacations and health issues. Despite strong objections from the defense team, the court scheduled the continuation of the legal proceedings for September 7, 9, and 11, at 9:00 a.m.

During the same session, the court addressed a defense motion to lift the defendant’s detention order. The defense argued for her release based on the total duration of her custody, which has reached 26 months, including the time resulting from the trial postponement. However, the judges rejected this request, ruling that there were insufficient grounds to justify her release at this stage. The defendant remains in custody as the case proceeds to its next scheduled hearing dates.
