Nicosia mayor pledges to restore historic Corner building after fire

On August 7, 2026, the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, announced his municipality's readiness to support the restoration and reuse of the historic Corner building, which was significantly damaged by a recent fire. Mayor Prountzos stated that the building's current derelict condition, situated near the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been exacerbated by the fire, negatively impacting the urban landscape.
