Nea Salamina signs Spanish defender Sergio Gonzalez

Cypriot football club Nea Salamina Famagusta has officially announced the signing of 34-year-old Spanish central defender Sergio Gonzalez Poirrier. The agreement is for an initial one-year term with an option for an additional year, reuniting the player with coach Angel Lopez, with whom he previously worked at Recreativo de Huelva.

Born in Madrid on April 20, 1992, the 1.89-meter tall defender arrives from Saudi Arabian club Al-Riyadh. Gonzalez brings significant experience, notably spending five years at CD Leganes, where he served as captain, recorded 166 appearances, and scored 12 goals. During the 2023-2024 season, he played a crucial role in Leganes' Segunda Division title win and subsequent promotion to La Liga, where he featured in 36 matches during the 2024-2025 campaign. His career also includes stints at Mirandés, Recreativo de Huelva, and UD San Sebastian de los Reyes.
