Cyprus commemorates the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou

From August 7 to 9, 2026, Cyprus is hosting a series of commemorative events to mark the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou. The two men, who were killed during protests in 1996, are remembered as symbols of resistance against the occupation in Cyprus. The commemorations honor their sacrifice and the ongoing struggle for justice on the island.

Organized by the Isaac-Solomou Memory Initiative in cooperation with local municipalities, the events include symbolic marches and motorcycle processions. On Friday, August 7, participants from Greece and Cyprus conducted a symbolic route through Nicosia. On Saturday, August 8, motorcycle convoys are traveling from various cities—including Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Nicosia—to Paralimni. The main memorial event will take place at 20:00 at the Isaac-Solomou Monument on Nikou Psara Street in Paralimni. This central ceremony will be broadcast live by RIK2, featuring speeches and tributes to the two men. The weekend concludes with the official 30th annual memorial service to pay respects to the fallen heroes.
