Two men arrested in Ayia Napa for possession of nitrous oxide

Police in Cyprus arrested two individuals on Friday night, August 7, 2026, during a preventive operation in Ayia Napa. Members of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit (MMAD) stopped a vehicle for a routine check, which was driven by a 26-year-old man with a 29-year-old passenger. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of 300 unused nitrous oxide capsules, commonly known as laughing gas, along with 12 inhalation devices and several balloons.

Following the discovery, both suspects were arrested at the scene for committing offenses in flagrante delicto. They were transported to the local station where they were charged in writing. The individuals have since been released as the Ayia Napa Police Station continues its investigation into the origin and intended distribution of the confiscated items. Authorities are looking into potential charges based on the results of their ongoing inquiry into the illicit substances.
