Annual Kokkina commemorative events take place in Cyprus

On the morning of August 8, 2026, approximately 1,250 people crossed from the occupied areas into the Kokkina region through the Limnitis checkpoint. This transit, which began at 08:30 and was completed shortly after 09:00, was facilitated by the passage of fifty minibuses accompanied by United Nations Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) vehicles. The operation also included the passage of two media vehicles from the occupied areas.

The movement of individuals was organized to allow participation in annual commemorative events marking the anniversary of the 1964 aerial bombardment of the Tillyria region by the Turkish Air Force. Andreas Karos, President of the Committee for the Opening of Tillyria Checkpoints, confirmed that the passage was conducted in stages to ensure order. The events in Kokkina are a recurring occurrence attended by officials, with reports noting the presence of Tufan Erhurman among the attendees.
