Liverpool completes surprise loan deal for Ronald Araujo from Barcelona
Liverpool officially secured the signing of 27-year-old central defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona for the 2026-2027 campaign. The agreement, finalized on August 10, 2026, includes a non-mandatory purchase option set at 55 million euros for next summer. As part of the terms, the English club will cover the player's full annual salary for the duration of his stay at Anfield.
This unexpected transfer was prompted by Liverpool's need to bolster their defensive line following the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid and recurring defensive issues observed during preseason friendlies against Leeds and Monaco. The club moved quickly to secure the Uruguayan international, who had been with the Catalan side since 2018, accumulating 213 appearances and 14 goals.
The deal was confirmed after the player successfully passed his medical examinations. Araujo is now integrated into the squad under manager Andoni Iraola, providing essential depth as the team prepares for the new Premier League season and their upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.
