Greek athletes compete at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Oregon

At the U20 World Athletics Championships held at Hayward Field in Oregon, several Greek athletes have showcased their progress during the latest competition stage. Danae Bakogianni set a new national U20 record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.61 seconds, finishing 23rd overall. Despite this personal milestone, she did not advance further in the event. Meanwhile, high jumper Olympia Tzouveli successfully qualified for the final, scheduled for Sunday, August 9, after clearing a height of 1.79 meters on her first attempt. She is one of 14 athletes who qualified for the medal round.

In contrast, Giannis Taskoudis concluded his campaign at the championship. The 18-year-old finished sixth in his heat for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81 seconds, placing him 33rd in the overall rankings. Following her performance in Oregon, Bakogianni is looking ahead to the upcoming European Championships in Bydgoszcz next year, where she intends to compete in the U20 category. Tzouveli, who holds a personal best of 1.85 meters, is now preparing for the highly competitive final in Oregon, which includes participants who have cleared heights exceeding 1.90 meters.
