Diplomatic efforts continue for Cyprus reunification talks

The process remains firmly within the federal framework, with the UN actively recording previous convergences to avoid starting from zero. Authorities emphasize that progress requires political will from all parties, particularly Turkey, which Nicosia insists must realign with UN parameters.

In preparation for broader talks, President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are scheduled to meet on August 26. This summit is expected to address confidence-building measures, specifically the potential opening of new crossing points. While the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, has noted that the peace effort relies on the two leaders, the Nicosia government maintains that the guarantor powers, including Turkey, must play a crucial role in achieving meaningful progress.
