Wildfires force mass evacuations in western Canada

A rapidly spreading wildfire is currently ravaging the Bald Range area in British Columbia, Canada. The fire, which broke out on Friday, moved with such intensity that it grew to over 95 square kilometers by Saturday morning. Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders for approximately 20,000 residents, including the entire community of Summerland with its 12,000 inhabitants and 8,000 people in the neighboring Peachland area.

As the fire encroaches upon towns along Okanagan Lake, local officials confirmed that power supplies have been cut in Summerland. While rescue operations, including the use of helicopters, are underway, the exact number of destroyed homes and structures remains unknown. Residents have been scrambling to evacuate, with many attempting to transport horses and other livestock to safety or releasing them into open spaces to flee the advancing flames.

The situation remains critical and out of control as emergency services continue to monitor the blaze.
