Cyprus issues yellow weather warnings due to persistent high temperatures

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued multiple yellow weather warnings for high temperatures, affecting the region since August 9, 2026. These warnings, primarily targeting inland areas, cautioned that maximum temperatures would reach approximately 40 degrees Celsius during the peak heat hours of 13:00 to 16:00. Seasonal low pressure is reported to be the primary factor behind the persistent heatwave conditions affecting the island.

While the weather remains predominantly clear and sunny, the authorities have noted that localized afternoon cloudiness is expected, particularly in mountainous regions, with a slight possibility of isolated showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds generally blow at 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 5 Beaufort on the southern and eastern coasts. Sea conditions are described as slight to locally moderate.

Following the initial warning on Sunday, a subsequent yellow alert was issued for Tuesday, August 11, covering the same time window of 14:00 to 16:00. Residents are advised to stay informed as temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal averages through mid-week, with the mercury continuing to hover around 39 to 40 degrees Celsius in the island's interior.
