Cyprus weather bureau issues yellow warning for heat

The Cyprus Department of Meteorology issued a yellow weather warning on August 11, 2026, for extreme heat affecting the island's inland regions. This follows a similar warning issued for the previous day, August 9, where temperatures also peaked at 40 degrees Celsius. While the peak heat is confined to the afternoon hours, temperatures in the coastal areas are forecast to range between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius, with mountainous regions reaching approximately 30 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have advised that these conditions are expected to persist for several days, although a slight cooling trend is anticipated towards the end of the week, bringing temperatures closer to seasonal averages. Residents are encouraged to take precautions during the hours specified in the warning, and there is a high risk of fires in forest areas across the country.
