Department of Meteorology issues yellow warning for extreme heat in Cyprus

The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for extreme high temperatures across Cyprus, valid for Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The alert remains in effect from 14:00 to 16:00, during which time temperatures in inland areas are forecast to peak at approximately 40 degrees Celsius.

According to official meteorological reports, the island is currently being influenced by a seasonal low-pressure system. While the day is expected to be mostly clear, cloud cover is anticipated to increase by the afternoon, particularly over the mountains, with a possibility of isolated rain. Coastal temperatures will remain significantly cooler, ranging from 31 to 35 degrees Celsius depending on the location, while temperatures at higher altitudes are expected to reach 30 degrees.

Looking ahead, officials expect a slight temperature drop beginning Thursday, with values returning closer to seasonal averages by Friday. While isolated rain and potential thunderstorms are forecast for mountain and inland areas toward the weekend, no further weather warnings are expected for the coming days as the heat intensity eases.
