Car fire reported in Larnaca

In the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, a private vehicle caught fire while parked in a field adjacent to a road in Larnaca. Authorities were alerted to the blaze at approximately 01:19, prompting the Fire Service to respond with two fully staffed fire engines.

The fire caused extensive damage to the front section of the vehicle, which is reportedly owned by a student from India. Additionally, a small area of dry grass surrounding the car was burned. The scene is currently under police guard as an investigation is conducted to determine the exact cause of the incident.

While official investigations remain ongoing, initial reports from police suggest the fire may have originated in the vehicle's engine. The Fire Service has noted that this incident occurred as part of a busy operational period, having responded to 30 incidents in the preceding 24-hour window, including 15 fires and 12 special service calls.
