Four people killed in helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro

A helicopter crashed on Saturday in Tijuca National Park, Rio de Janeiro, resulting in the deaths of all four people on board. The victims included the pilot and three Colombian tourists: a 59-year-old woman, her 37-year-old daughter, and her 17-year-old granddaughter. Emergency responders discovered the bodies charred among the wreckage on a steep, densely vegetated mountainside, which made initial recovery efforts difficult.

This incident follows a separate fatal collision in June involving two helicopters in the same region, which claimed six lives, including notable figures such as American singer Oliver Tree and Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim. The recurring safety issues have prompted Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes to formally request that the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority implement immediate measures to regulate the increasing frequency of tourist helicopter flights in the city.

The circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear and are currently under investigation by local authorities. Officials are now focusing on improving oversight to prevent further accidents in this popular tourism hub.
