Nurse assaulted by patient at Erythros Stavros hospital

On the morning of Saturday, August 8, 2026, a violent incident occurred at the Emergency Department of the Erythros Stavros hospital in Greece. A nurse, normally employed in the Intensive Care Unit, was assisting with emergency shifts when she was physically attacked by a patient. According to the president of the POEDIN union, Michalis Giannakos, the conflict began between 06:00 and 06:30 after the nurse requested the patient to wait while higher-priority life-threatening cases were addressed.

The patient, who had been lying on a stretcher, rose and assaulted the nurse. Reports indicate the attacker grabbed the nurse by her hair, struck her with fists, and slammed her head against a door, causing significant injuries. The victim eventually managed to escape the treatment room. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety of medical personnel in public health facilities during high-pressure emergency shifts.
