Customs officers at Larnaca Airport seize THC-laced vape pens from the U.S.

On August 5, 2026, customs officers at the Larnaca Airport postal exchange intercepted a package from the United States containing illicit narcotics. The shipment, weighing 4.2 kilograms and declared as children's trading card games, underwent a physical inspection after being flagged by the Customs Risk Management System. Upon opening the package in the presence of a postal official, authorities discovered 48 vape pens of various flavors instead of the declared items.

The seized vape devices were labeled with a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of 89% and cannabidiol (CBD) content of 7.49%, totaling a 96.49% concentration of active cannabinoids. The Customs Department immediately notified the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN), which took custody of the package and its contents for further investigation. Following the discovery, YKAN members obtained a warrant and arrested an individual in the Nicosia district on the morning of Friday, August 7, suspected to be the intended recipient of the shipment. The investigation remains ongoing.
